EFT Tapping

EFT Tapping with Chloë Swinton

Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) is a trauma-informed energy psychology method (also known as a cognitive somatic approach) that involves gently tapping on acupressure points on the body along the meridian lines of Chinese medicine. These are specific energy points on the head, hands and chest. At the same time, the focus is on verbalising challenging feelings, thoughts and memories and exploring the root causes of the problem.

About EFT
EFT was developed by Gary Craig in 1995 but it was back in the 1920’s that Albert Einstein proved that everything is comprised of energy. The purpose of EFT is to release any ‘blockages’ to the energy system of the body to promote healing, relaxation, and gain clarity and resolution. The effects of EFT lessen emotional or physical intensity and reconfigure the neurological wiring of the brain and limbic system responses. It’s usually rapid and offers long lasting relief from symptoms. EFT is an empowering tool which can also be used for self-help at home once you understand the process.

Who I work with
I’ve used EFT for clients and on myself for a whole range of issues. EFT is effective for stress, anxiety and panic attacks, pain, grief and loss, chronic illness, abuse, depression, phobias, limiting beliefs, self-sabotaging behaviours, low self-esteem and confidence, anger, sleep problems, and for any emotional distress or physical illness. It is particularly helpful for PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) and traumatic experiences as it accesses the amygdala part of the brain and desensitises ourselves to the stress and intensity of the memories. NICE (National Institute for Health and Care Excellence) has found EFT to be effective for PTSD and there is lots of evidence on its use, such as research by Dr Peta Stapleton in The Science behind Tapping.

My experience
I'm an EFT Advanced Practitioner, having completed my Level 3 EFT International accredited training with Founding Master, Tania A Prince. I’ve been working with EFT since 2018 and have greatly used this powerful tool with counselling clients who are experiencing trauma. There are many benefits to also being a fully qualified, experienced and accredited MBACP Counsellor, as I work professionally to ‘hold’ your difficult emotions and experiences, express deep empathy and have a non-judgemental and congruent approach. I actively listen to you and create a safe and stable environment for you to work through your challenges.

I'm additionally NLP trained (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) meaning I pay close attention to your words and the way your brain processes information. Sessions are regularly reviewed to ensure they are focused and your aims are being fulfilled.  I hold you with great regard and I'm compassionate, kind and patient. I have professional indemnity and public liability insurance, and hold a current DBS Enhanced Certificate. Find out more about me on my About Chloe page.

Medicine for example pays very little attention to the disruptions in the body’s energy meridians nor does it give much weight to emotional causes. These causes, of course, are the centrepiece of EFT. - Gary Crag, Founder of EFT
