Ecotherapy Counselling with Chloë Swinton
Are you concerned about the ecological, biodiversity and climate crises? Perhaps it’s had emotional and psychological effects; in feeling helpless, anxious, panicky, anger, shame, frustration or fear of the future. You may be overwhelmed and in a state of uncertainty, evoking despair and grief.
Maybe you are living with guilt or have lost faith. Eco-anxiety, eco-depression or eco-grief may be terms you have become familiar with, and you are feeling paralysed or stuck. You could be experiencing panic attacks, obsessive thinking, loss of appetite, insomnia or many other symptoms associated with climate anxiety.
Perhaps there is a rollercoaster of emotions, and constant triggers that incite your vulnerability or a lack of control. It may be that those close to you don’t understand your pain, or deny their responsibility in the destruction of our planet. This may affect your relationships with those around you.
In 2018, I undertook world-renowned workshop The Work That Reconnects, and am inspired by Joanna Macy’s work in deep ecology and her framework for personal and social change. I have supported environmental activists from Extinction Rebellion and similar climate groups to offer validation and witnessing of their emotional responses to the ecological threats facing us. This encourages trust in their raw experience and reconnection on a physical, emotional and spiritual level.
As a lover of our natural environment, I recognise we are a part of it, not separate to it. I can offer grounding, help build emotional resilience and give a space to process and understand any feelings of loss. Coming to some acceptance of living in an uncertain world and preparing for change are core parts of the ecotherapy work.
I respect whatever stage you are at in becoming aware of our climate crisis, and recognise we live in a toxic system. Whether you identify as an activist or not, the focus is on your wellbeing and inspiring a life which is mindful, of purpose and with connection and belonging; providing a safe non-judgemental space for you to explore and regenerate.
I plant trees to help halt climate change and offset my carbon emissions. Check out how many trees I've planted so far here: Ecologi Chloe Swinton.
