Benefits of Telephone Counselling
I have extensive experience providing emotional support by telephone and working on national helplines for over 20 years, and have been offering confidential counselling by telephone within the UK since 2013. Telephone counselling has many benefits including accessibility, convenience, more anonymity, as well as being affordable. It may be that you simply do not live in Norfolk but wish to work with me. I highlight below some of the other reasons why this type of counselling may be more desirable as a method of receiving emotional support.
Accessibility
Gaining support by telephone can make counselling accessible if you are housebound, isolated or have disabilities including visual impairment. It may be that you find it challenging to leave your home due to social phobias, agoraphobia or anxiety disorders. If you are experiencing domestic abuse or are in a controlling environment, telephone counselling is discreet and confidential (calls are made to you from a private untraceable number). Telephone counselling can also be a good option if you are feeling particularly anxious about having counselling or actually getting to the therapy centre.
Convenience
You might live in a rural or remote area where there are no counselling services available, or you may not have transport to be able to get to Norwich where I see clients face to face. If you are a carer or have young children, your time may be pressured and telephone counselling may be your only opportunity to gain support. It may be that you are particularly busy at the moment and work full time but have an hour during your lunch break to gain counselling support. You may travel within the UK for your job but wish for a regular counselling session.
Anonymity
Although the counselling I offer is non-judgemental and without discrimination, you may feel you have more privacy without being physically ‘seen’, therefore able to communicate more openly without concerns of race, gender, age, physical appearance etc. It may be that receiving counselling and asking for help feels uncomfortable and you would prefer not to visit a therapy centre for fear of social stigma or embarrassment. Telephone counselling is conducted from the comfort of your own surroundings, so you may feel more relaxed or safe in your own environment where you can put your feet up with a cuppa, and even in your pyjamas if you prefer!
Affordability
There are no extra costs (or time) involved such as travelling or parking fees. You don’t even need to worry about the call charge as this included in the standard counselling fee – I make the call to any UK landline or mobile number. Payment is made quickly and easily by bank transfer in advance of a counselling session.

Telephone Counselling Sessions
- Location: I am available for confidential telephone counselling wherever you are, as long as you have access to a clear UK phone line that accepts calls from withheld numbers or a good mobile signal. It is important that are able to find a quiet and confidential space on your own where you wouldn’t be interrupted - this could be at home, work, or even in a car if needed.
- Duration: A counselling session by telephone usually lasts for 50 minutes, and is generally on the same day, at the same time on a weekly basis. Regular sessions are crucial to the counselling process. I can provide short or long-term therapy dependent on your situation and issue. I also offer single-session counselling which is usually conducted by telephone or online.
- Cost: I provide a free 20 minute initial conversation by telephone (book here), then each 50 minute counselling session costs £60, including single-session therapy.
Thank you so much for listening to all my worries. It was wonderful to get so much out and to have someone who cared, listen to me. - TS
